Delivering the News

"We proclaim the gospel to the world so that they may be saved."

I check my mailbox every day--always have. I know some people go days without checking their mail, but I can't do that. I find it rewarding and enjoyable to pick something up from the mailbox that has a measure of value and immediate reward. An empty mailbox tends to generate an audible "ugh" as I stare into the hollow metal.

On the days I've been told that something will arrive, there's hardly anyone else I'd rather see than our mail carrier. She becomes a friend for the day.

One way to think of our role as disciples of Christ is that we, too, are mail carriers. Second Corinthians 3 has taught us that we're "letters of Christ"; yet, we're also carriers of the good news. Romans 10 asks, "How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, 'How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!'” (vv. 14-15).

What a fabulous thing this is. We're letters that testify of Christ--in word and in deed. We're letter-carriers that bring the good news of Christ--heralding the glorious realities of Christ's Person and Work. We're privileged to be chosen by God to always have a message to share. We never leave the mailbox empty; we're always able to deliver bounds of tidings of great, eternal joy. God has given us Someone to share.

So, consider your life and how God has placed you in a situation to deliver good news to those around you. You possess a great blessing, and a blessed obligation to help take Jesus into the world.
