30 Questions for Bible Skeptics

You know the type.

People who say things like, "I like Jesus, but I don't trust the Bible."
Or, "Embrace the gospels; cautiously read the rest."

Many of these people claim to be Christians. They like Jesus a lot, but they cannot seem to understand how the Bible as a whole could be the infallible, inspired word of God.

These questions are for those people.

Be sure to have this list handy when talking to cult groups who try to tell you that Jesus is great, but there's more revelation than the Bible.

Epistemology


1. How do you know what is true?
2. Is that the ultimate authority for all truth in your life? If not, what is?

Ontology


3. Does a sovereign, most-powerful God exist?
4. Does God desire to communicate to men and women created and His image?
5. Does God desire to communicate to them in a way they can understand?
6. Does God make it difficult for them to know His commands?
7. Is there a better way for God to communicate to men other than inspiring people to write down His words?

I like Jesus, but I don’t trust the Old Testament


8. Why do you trust the accuracy of the words attributed to Jesus in the gospels?
9. What do you make of Jesus affirming the words of the Old Testament many times over?
10. Would Jesus ever use a text as authoritative if it was actually untrustworthy?
11. What did Jesus mean in Matthew 4:4?
12. What did Jesus mean in Matthew 5:18?
13. What did Jesus mean in Matthew 24:35?
14. How could Jesus make such a promise?
15. Why is the Old Testament affirmed as the word of God in Mark 7:13?
16. What did Jesus mean by “the word of God” in Luke 8:11?
17. What did Jesus mean in John 17:17?

I like Jesus, but I don’t trust the rest of the New Testament


18. What did Jesus mean when He spoke to His disciples in John 14:12?
19. What about 14:26?
20. How were the disciples to be witnesses for Christ (Acts 1:8)?
21. Why do you trust the first half of Luke’s historical record (the book of Luke) but not the second half (Acts)?
22. Why do you trust the gospel of John but not the rest of his writings (1-3 John, Revelation)?
23. Did any of the apostles write words that contradicted Jesus’s teachings?

If these particular verses happen to be God’s revelation to man…


24. Deuteronomy 18:19-22 affirms all of the prophets who spoke of the coming Messiah, does it not?
25. What do you make of Psalm 102:18?
26. Isaiah 40:8 means that God is in complete control of what happens to His revelation, does it not?
27. Isaiah 55:10-11 means that God is in complete control of what happens to His revelation, does it not?
28. What do you make of 2 Timothy 3:16-17?
29. What do you make of 2 Peter 1:19-21?


30. O man, who art thou that repliest against God? (Romans 9:20)
